Breast Reduction

BREAST REDUCTION

A breast reduction is a surgical operation that aids in improving the form, weight, and size of the
breasts. This procedure can boost self-esteem and reduce neck and back discomfort.
For a fuller and more improved shape, breast augmentation surgery is frequently combined with
breast reduction surgery.
Back pain from large, heavy breasts can also lead to bad posture and other health issues. Large
breasts that are conspicuous or out of proportion might also attract unwanted attention (ranging
from childhood teasing to sexual harassment as an adult). For smaller, more aesthetically
pleasing breasts, breast reduction surgery removes extra breast tissue and, if necessary,
realigns the nipples.

THE SURGERY

Breast reduction surgery includes making anchor-shaped incisions in the breasts, much as
breast lift surgery. Each nipple is cut in a circular pattern, and if desired, big areolas can then be
reduced. From the areola’s base to the fold under the breast, a vertical incision is created. The
fold that surrounds the underside of the breast is then cut in a semicircular fashion. The
superfluous skin is then clipped, the nipple is realigned, and a predefined amount of fat and
glandular tissue are removed. The incisions are closed with sutures, and gauze dressings are
utilised to speed up the healing process. For several weeks, it will be necessary to wear a
surgical bra to keep the breasts in place and allow for healing.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

If any of the following applies to you:
You are in good physical shape.
You’ve set reasonable goals.
You are troubled by the perception that your breasts are excessively big, and they prevent you
from engaging in some physical activities.
Your back, neck, and shoulders hurt as a result of carrying around extra weight from your
breasts.
You have bra strap indentations on your shoulders.
Under the breast crease, you experience skin discomfort.

PREPARING FOR

It is important to discuss and disclose any with us:
If you have a pre-existing medical condition
Any medication you use, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal remedies
Upon arrival, you will meet with your surgeon for a physical examination to finalise the surgical
plan and discuss your goals and concerns. During this assessment, your doctor will choose the
most appropriate course of action for you and go through all the specifics with you, including
any potential drawbacks. You should go into surgery with realistic expectations. Your surgeon
can also advise additional operations during this examination.
Prior to your surgery, it’s crucial that you follow these steps:
Give up smoking. Smoking can impair circulation and raise the risk of complications.

RECOVERY AND POST-OPERATIVE CARE:

SURGERY DURATION:

Depending on the technique used and the size of the breasts, the treatment typically needs two
to four hours of operating time. You will stay at the Hospital and be monitored – typically 1-2
nights and then be transported to your hotel for recovery

POST SURGERY

Following surgery, you will be covered in gauze dressings, elastic bandages, and a surgical bra.
For the first day or two, a tiny tube may be inserted into each breast to remove blood and fluids.
Depending on whether you tend to bruise easily or swell easily, the severity of the
post-operative swelling and bruising will vary. Every individual is unique. Ice packs or cold
compresses can be used to reduce swelling and ease pain.
You will be given oral painkillers to relieve discomfort, and antibiotics will be recommended to
stop any infections.
The pressure bandages will be taken off a couple of days after the procedure. For several
weeks until the swelling and bruising go down, or until your surgeon instructs you otherwise, the
surgical bra must be worn at all times. The only time you should take off your surgical bra is to
take a shower and wash it.
It’s vital to avoid exerting tension on the incisions for the first few months by lifting or stretching
your arms over your head, since this may cause the tissue to stretch and cause more scarring.
Although your surgeon will work to make your incisions as undetectable as possible, it’s crucial
to keep in mind that the scars are significant and long-lasting. They could remain crimson for
several months before gradually fading to become tiny white lines. The scars are typically
placed so that they won’t be visible when wearing low-cut tops and dresses.
Recovery often takes between two and three weeks.

DURATION OF STAY:

The majority of surgeons advise taking a Medical Holiday of 10 to 12 days, during which time
you will schedule routine follow-up meetings with your surgeon. We advise that you engage in
light exercise and indulge yourself to make the most of your healing time.
There is a lot to see and do in Turkey if you feel up to it!

COMPLICATIONS AND RISKS

Any surgical procedure carries risks. The most typical side effects include swelling, bruising,
bleeding, infection, fluid retention, scarring, numbness, or a change in the nipple’s feeling. The
nipple’s nerve and blood supply being damaged is the surgery’s most frequent specific risk.
Following surgery, breastfeeding might become less likely. People who have already had
children and don’t want to have any more are advised to get their breasts reduced.
Breast reduction DOES NOT raise your risk of developing breast cancer, and it might even
modestly lower your risk. After surgery, mammograms will still be an option. Scars will
progressively fade, but it could take up to a year for sensation to recover in the nipples.
It is vital to be realistic before to having breast reduction surgery because results may not
always live up to expectations.

RESULTS

The majority of patients who have a reduction in mammoplasty are happy with the size and form
of their breasts as well as the improvement and reduction of the symptoms of pain and
discomfort they had been experiencing as a result of the weight of their breasts. Patients love
their improved appearance and ability to wear clothing that was unpleasant or unappealing
before the surgery was done. Breast reduction also makes physical activities easier.

PREPARING FOR:

Please let your surgeon know about any allergies, ailments, and medications you are taking
prior to surgery (both prescription and non-prescription). You should refrain from taking aspirin
and any aspirin-containing medication for two weeks prior to surgery in order to reduce the risk
of post-operative bleeding.
Additionally, you should stop smoking two weeks before surgery because it can impact how you
respond to anaesthesia and delay healing.
Prior to surgery, patients with hypertension must disclose this to the surgeon. You should talk
about and hear the surgeon’s advice during your consultation about your expectations for the
procedure’s results.
Prior to the consultation, you will probably be expected to submit the surgeon pictures of your
breasts. This will help with the evaluation and act as a guide after the operation.
Before departing for a foreign country, the patient must undergo blood tests to avoid
potential cancellations.

PREOPERATIVE SCREENING

Prior to hospital admission and surgery, it is standard hospital practice for your surgeon to do
diagnostic tests and/or laboratory investigations to make sure you are healthy enough for
surgery.
Before departing for a foreign country, the patient must undergo blood tests to avoid
potential cancellations.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Short-term bruising
Swelling
Discomfort and Numbness
Permanently scarred skin
Dry Itchy skin

RECOVERY

Return to work: 2-3 Weeks
A more demanding physical activity of 4 weeks is adequate.
Injuries will heal: between a few months and a year (or longer, pending individual healing)

# Please take note # – This data serves as a guide for your potential care. During your initial
